Dear Wroxton Participant:
We are pleased you have accepted Dr. Schaefer’s invitation to attend The Wroxton Study Group 2010 being held June 19-25. Participation for the study group is highly desired, and we always have a “wait list,” so if you are committed to attending, we would like you to be aware of the following guidelines:
While we encourage you to enjoy yourself please keep in mind that Wroxton College is the European Campus of Farleigh Dickinson University, and it should be treated as such. Attendees must follow all guidelines and policies set forth by the college. These topics will be addressed at the orientation meeting.
June weather in the UK can vary widely from day to day. It is likely to be chilly in the evenings and as warm as 70-something degrees during the day. The average daytime temp for June is 70 degrees.
The participation fee for attending Wroxton is $455, split into two payments. A deposit of $255 is due by September 1st to secure your place. The remaining balance of $200 is due prior to December 1st. Fees are non refundable. We can only accept “credit cards” (no personal checks, money orders or cash) please go to www.nanaschildren.org and follow the links to the “Wroxton Payment” tab.
The cost of room and board is not included in the participation fee. This cost is approximately £47.50 per night and includes accommodations and all meals. The exact cost depends on the exchange rate of dollars to pounds. As the date approaches we will notify you with a more precise amount. Room fees must be paid in cash (US dollar or English pounds) upon arrival at Wroxton College.
Alcohol must be purchased and consumed in the pub located at the “Buttery” or off campus. No alcohol beverage are permited elsewhere on the grounds. No smoking, candles or use matches are allowed inside any building at anytime. It can get very dark at night so having a small flashlight is recommended.
Please be aware that UK wall sockets are designed for plugs with three square pins. The standard voltage in the UK is 240V AC, 50Hz. This is compared to the US where the voltage is 120V, 60Hz. If you want to use an American electrical appliance while in the UK, you will need an adapter for the plug and most likely need a voltage adapter as well, unless your appliance can cope with 240V (check the specifications printed on the bottom). If you intend to bring a laptop computer, for example, be advised that PC laptops need voltage adapters whereas most Mac laptops convert automatically between different voltages. The University has a bank of computers in the basement that are hooked up to Internet and free of charge. They are also connected to printers. If you will need to print, bring paper, since the upstairs offices charges for paper and is not always open.
You are responsible for your own travel arrangements. Keep in mind that you must arrive at the University no later than 3:00pm Saturday June 19th. For a bus schedule from either Heathrow or Gatwick consult http://www.nationalexpress.co.uk. If you coordinate travel plans with other Wroxton participants it may be more economical to hire a private shuttle for the group, this information can be obtained by e-mailing TRAVELINER@aol.com.
For those participants selected by Dr. Schaefer to present; you will be notified via e-mail by November 1, 2009.. The deadline for submitting all material on your presentation, including slides, handouts, etc. back to us is January 31, 2010. This date is absolutely firm and all materials must be sent to nanasatwroxton@aol.com so the presentation books can be printed and shipped on schedule.
During the week of the study group, one night we have a Medieval Ball (costumes are available for rental). On another day we go to Stratford Upon Avon to watch a play. Tickets for the play, transportation, and the medieval dinner are included in your fee. Please contact me at nanasatwroxton@aol.com if you have any questions or concerns.
Kindest regards,
Ana Sutton, MA Administrative Coordinator
