Advisory Board Jennifer Baggerly, Ph.D., LMHC-S, RPT-S (USA), is an Associate Professor in the Counselor Education program at the University of South Florida. She holds a doctorate in counseling education with a specialization in play therapy. Dr. Baggerly is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and a Field Traumatologist. She has over thirteen years of clinical experience in play therapy and counseling children and families who have experienced trauma. She teaches graduate courses such as Principles of Counseling, Counseling Theories, and Play Therapy as well as numerous workshops on trauma interventions with children. Lois Carey, MSW, RPT-S (USA), is a graduate of Columbia University School of Social Work and has been using Sandplay since 1980. Her background includes extensive Sandplay studies (most of it with Frau Dora Kalff), along with other creative arts modalities. Since 1984 she has delivered Sandplay lectures to numerous professional groups in many areas of this country and abroad. Mrs. Carey is Director of the Center for Sandplay Studies in Upper Grandview (Nyack), NY, where she supervises and trains other professionals in play therapy and Sandplay. She is the Past President of the New York Association for Play Therapy and is a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor of APT. Ann Cattanach, Ph.D., RPT-S (UK), is a dramatherapist, play therapist, and a lecturer in communication and drama. Her Initial training was in drama teaching and then research into the language development of young people for a Masters Degree in Developmental Medicine. She has had further training in dramatherapy, play therapy, and psychotherapy in the UK and the Netherlands. Dr. Cattanach holds a PhD in Play Therapy research. She has worked in schools and institutes of higher education in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Jo Ann Cook, Ed.D, RPT-S (USA) Athena A. Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S (USA), is a licensed child Psychologist, certified school Psychologist and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She is Director of Clinical Training and the APA-Accredited Doctoral Internship Program at The Astor Home for Children, a multi-service mental health agency with over 700 employees serving Dutchess, Bronx and Orange Counties in New York. Dr. Drewes is adjunct professor of play therapy at Marist and Sage Colleges, past Board of Director of the Association for Play Therapy (2001-2007), Founder and Past President of the New York Association for Play Therapy, and Director of the Play Therapy Institute. Louise Guerney, Ph.D., RPT-S (USA) Akiko Ohnogi, Ph.D, (Japan), is co-founder of the Japan Play Therapy Association and is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Tokyo, Japan. She is also adjunct faculty at International Christian University psychology graduate school and California School of Professional Psychology, Japan campus. She has conducted workshops for mental health and health care providers in Niigata for supporting children affected by the 2004 Chuuetsu earthquake series. An article titled “Play Base Psychological Interventions with Traumatized Children: Work with Tsunami Orphaned Sri Lankan Children,” is currently in print in the International Handbook of Play Therapy. She has also written “Understanding and Dealing with Children who have Difficulty Staying Still,” in Child Study, a parenting advice column “Shinro Shingaku Tsushin” in Shinken-Zemi Benesse, as well as “Play Therapy with Very Young Children,” and “Making Safe Space in Play with Children.”
Virginia Ryan, Ph.D, RPT-S (UK), is a child and adolescent Psychologist, Certified Play Therapist and Supervisor. She trained in the USA, at the University of Minnesota and the University of Texas at Austin. Her part time academic post is Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Associate Professor) in the Social Policy and Social Work Department at the University of York, UK. Virginia is the Director of the Post-qualifying MA/Diploma in Non-directive Play Therapy. Charles E. Schaefer, Ph.D., RPT-S (USA), is Director-Emeritus and Co-Founder of the association for Play Therapy. He is also Founder and Co-Director of the Play Therapy Training Institute in New Jersey. Dr. Schaefer is author/editor of over 55 professional books, Karen Stagnitti, B.Occ Thy., Ph.D., graduated with a Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland in 1977. Since this time she has mainly worked in early childhood intervention programs in community based settings as part of a multidisciplinary team. In 2003 she graduated from LaTrobe University with a Doctor of Philosophy. Her area of research is children’s play. Karen has written 4 books and has several national and international papers published. Her norm referenced standardised play assessment, the Child-Initiated Pretend Play Assessment, was published in 2007. She is currently editing a new book on play due for release with Jessica Kingsley Publishers, London, in 2009. She currently works as Associate Professor (Research) at the Occupational Science and Therapy program at Deakin University, Victoria, Australia. Dr. Marta Tessari, Professor of Psychology (Argentina) graduated from the National University of Comahue, Rio Negro, Argentina. She has been a professor of clinical psycho-pedagogy at the Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires. She is the founder and current president of the Fundacion Procesos para Estudio e Investigacion del Aprendizaje (FUNDPEIA- 2005). A nonprofit organization, dedicated to the study and implementation of methods to facilitate the education of students at risk of academic failure due to mental health issues. Dr. Tessari has written chapters in text books, articles in newspapers and magazines, and has presented in television and radio programs, workshops and congresses national and international on topics related to children’s issues and Play Therapy.
